McAlpines Strum Landsknecht 2vs2ogi

Creed and Promise

I dedicate myself wholeheartedly to this creed, lest I befoul my honour
I promise to uphold the standards and duties of this company, my life as my pledge
My loyalty is without question, free of fissure
To serve with my new kin, my brothers and sisters
These I promise, on pain of dishonour shall I break.

Faction Overview

A company sized professional mixed fighting force, McAlpines Landsknecht are a band of Occitanian ethno-nationalist warriors whom have recently come to the Heartland Area. Known for the high level of discipline, esprit de corp, and rigorous Occitanian efficiency. Drafted from the ranks of the various Occitanian armies, this band is a veteran of many a battlefield, able to act dynamically and effectively under a myriad of situations.

History

Formed by an enterprising young Major after the dissolution of her battalion due to losses, the meager survivors banded together in a platoon sized force. Doing odd jobs for many a prince and noble they quickly developed a reputation for eagerness, professionalism, and ruthlessness. Over time the platoon would grow into a company. This was significantly hindered by the intense selection process, and high wash out rate for potential new recruits. Eventually, they did come up to sizable muster, able to add further and more interesting detachments and specializations. They do not come cheap however, but those who can pay the price don't complain.

I'm very torn.

I love the addition of new RP, new stories, new developments, and what have you.

However, we have several people who wish to command their own armies and forces here, and several ties in with each of these forces; I'm not sure that now is the best time to send a new band of elite-event-characters-for-hire into Surna, especially with the blockade set by Vlad.

Speaking bluntly, I feel the 35k a month is a bit steep, even for an organization. I guess as elite soldiers for hire, the big bad mercenary guild of the land, it fits, if they had platoons ready on lease. However, running a successful mercenary organization takes expenses, and I'd like to see that listed somewhere. Also, I might want to talk with you later, as I'm (slowly) taking a swing at the Aerian economy.

Lastly... well, I can think of another blatantly Occitanian militarist brought into play recently, and I just want to have the assurance of the author that he did not create this faction to be his IC character's long list of bodyguards that he can use to escape conflict IC. I don't believe you to be someone who would do this, you've roleplayed entirely fair throughout the entirety of the time I've known you, and I trust your ability to create lore. However, I just want to make sure that you've asked yourself a question: "Is this something everyone can play with, or is this something for me to play with?"

No offense to you, but I've seen one other military (so far) be used entirely by a single character, whom has left little int he way for other people to interact with them in actual roleplay. Mayhaps this is fair, but it gives me a rub the wrong way, when essentially, player characters get their own reserve of shock troops or aquebuisers. I am the patron of the Warg faction, but I would be utterly overjoyed to see people take up Warg characters, and enact the faction as it would be in Surna (as long as they don't go DarkRP thieves. XDD).

In short, I'm willing to see this added to the roleplay, I just need one or two questions answered, and an assurance that mommy and daddy aren't getting a divorce (metaphorically).

1:03 PM - Christoph: I'll talk about it here, then post the logs, I suppose.
1:03 PM - Christoph: Now, let me find your comment
1:03 PM - Dominator046: Or just here is fine, you seem like a fine fellow.
1:03 PM - Dominator046: I trust you, at least. XD

1:03 PM - Christoph: Right, so.
1:04 PM - Christoph: I'll adress these one at a time, and give you a chance to respond. I'd also like to start by thanking you for your time to write constructive criticism.
1:04 PM - Dominator046: Sounds good. = )
1:06 PM - Christoph: The first issue at hand you've pointed out, is the cost of the troops in question, and the effect on the local economy. I'm more than willing to draw up a ledger, and document the expenses. And would be willing to enlist your help in that, if you were so kind. As you stated, the reason they cost so much is because they are very effective. If you look at the actual Landsknecht of the area, they were in very high demand. This is compounded by the fact that it is a mixed force, employing Serbian style Lancers, and in the current power vaccume in the heartlands
1:06 PM - Christoph: they have plenty of options for work
1:07 PM - Christoph: They're already poised to accept a contract, actually. If they are accepted that will become apparent IC.
1:07 PM - Christoph: Care to respond? Or shall I move on?
1:07 PM - Dominator046: XDD I understand the contract already, and, if anything, that somewhat worries me.
1:08 PM - Dominator046: You probably know BooM better than I do though, so I have little more to say on that.
1:08 PM - Dominator046: Just the fact that he's ruthless, and has a tendency to step on people.
1:08 PM - Dominator046: (100% betrayal rate)
1:09 PM - Dominator046: And I feel that this contract may in fact put the entire faction you're proposing in jeopardy. Or, what may have instigated some of my worries, is that the idea may have been put forth for a means to specifically aid a specific roleplaying situation already going on.
1:10 PM - Dominator046: But, I have faith that's not the case, just BooM's ability to step over everyone he comes into contact with does draw me to pause, and the fact that Pat informed me about the contract before the suggestion even appeared may have unnerved me.
1:11 PM - Dominator046: The cost of maintainance. (I know I misspelled that, I'm bad) I would be more than happy to help you with. = ) Also, perhaps, giving a little here-or-there on the economic situation of Aeria as I understand.
1:12 PM - Christoph: Right, so, I'll adress this entire concept at once. Your main concern and issue, if I havn't read you wrong, is that you're worried that this faction will be an excuse for personal power circlejerk, and serve not to better the roleplay of the community, but rather to advance the roleplay intrests of a few select people and groups. Correct me if I'm wrong?
1:13 PM - Dominator046: I sound kind of like an ass when that's pointed out, but yes, I believe that's the primary concern. It wouldn't hold back an accept, but I do believe that's what unnerves me.
1:13 PM - Dominator046: Mostly because, that's what every military faction int he roleplay is, save Blackwatch.
1:13 PM - Christoph: Good, now allow me to settle and refute your concerns.
1:13 PM - Dominator046: the Vale Military, the Imperial Trade Armada, even The Wargs as they stand now, are almost private event groups. XD
1:13 PM - Dominator046: Same with the Archivists of Light, and so on.
1:13 PM - Dominator046: So, that's where my fear coems from.
1:18 PM - Christoph: Right, so I created this faction from the very get go in contact with Pat. This is the reason he had knowledge of the contract before the page was drawn up. I sat down with him and said 'I'm thinking about creating a mercenary faction, explain to me how I can best integrate this into the community, and create the best outcome for all parties involved' This was my primary motivation from the start. It is not an attempt on my part to grab IC power. Infact, you'll note none of my characters have been particularly ambitious in terms of power. Even my demonologist, Vorn's sister, who arguable has the largest capacity to hold sway over IC events of any of my characters, consistantly refutes the chance. I digress. I would also like to assure you that this faction is not a Fruedian style projection of my own ambitions and wants into a virtual setting, the main idea of this faction was to explore the nature of morality, and the connections between company sized groups of people in a free-market, nature based setting.
1:24 PM - Christoph: Hello?
1:24 PM - Dominator046: sorry about that, was hittin dat kitchen.
1:24 PM - Christoph: k
1:25 PM - Dominator046: Well, I do believe you, and I guess it's nice just to hear it. Not many are so easily able to refute their own dealings and happenings by suggesting a faction.
1:26 PM - Dominator046: I might seem hypocritical with the Wargs now, since they were elevated (through my rather surprised and very happy discussions with Pat) into a more potentious hand in recent events.
1:26 PM - Dominator046: Though, as I said, I would love to see more people join the Wargs, and see their hands play out in Surna.
1:27 PM - Christoph: Sure, also I'd like to say in referance to my other character(Reinhardt)
1:27 PM - Dominator046: In fact, one of the reasons I made Robael an event character, is that he wouldn't always be around to chaperone and give orders. They'd have to unite and establish a sort of standing largely on their own, without the big head honcho guild master.
1:27 PM - Christoph: Reinhardt has no place in the faction, as he's entirely self intrested, almost.
1:27 PM - Dominator046: Mhmm, sorry, continue.
1:27 PM - Christoph: And being part of the group required a high standard of group cohesion, and groupthink
1:28 PM - Dominator046: Ah, alright. It just made me connect dots that were not there I suppose. A creation of a heavy occitanian character, followed by an occitanian based faction.
1:28 PM - Dominator046: My apologies on that.
1:28 PM - Christoph: Yeah, I thought about that myself as I created the faction. But in the end it's incocequential.
1:29 PM - Dominator046: allrighty
1:29 PM - Dominator046: well, I'll ammend my stance on the post with a new one soon.
1:29 PM - Christoph: I'll just post these logs.
