The Kazar Triumvirate 00100020211_tnb_zpsba6c0dcd

Background
Quote :
The Kazar Triumvirate is still in its early years. Plagued by instability, threatened by forces within and (unknowingly) without, the Triumvirate has reached toward space, its best hope for survival.

History
Quote :
Little is known of Kazar history. Even their own records are significantly fragmented. Thousands of years ago was believed to have been when the first societies began forming. Roughly a thousand years later was the time of Xax. There were several wars, some of them large enough to span all of Kazon-2. For a brief period the classes fought against each other, the Thinkers usually the victors. The Unification Wars were fought by nations across the world, and the end result was the formation of the Triumvirate, the first planetary government. For 50 years it has endured, and its latest endeavor has been the exploration and eventual colonization of space.

Science teams work around the clock on research that will improve lives and ensure their place in the galaxy. Already, technology has advanced substantially. The invention of the first FTL drive was hailed (by few) as one of their greatest achievements. The first interstellar spacecraft, Journey, was given a prototype. Though it has been tested countless times, it is not fully known what will become of Journey and her crew.

Physiology
Quote :
The Kazar have three distinct "classes" or subspecies with different traits. They are capable of interbreeding despite their genetic differences. Sometimes a Kazar is born whose class is different from both parents. The child is usually a Worker.

Kazar are an egg-laying species that hatch as larva and metamorphose into an "adolescent" form with an exoskeleton. A series of molts occurs as the Kazar grows over the course of a few years to its largest adult form. Kazar have a circulatory system well-suited to lower oxygen levels. They generally have average eyesight, and they are skilled in navigating in confined spaces. It is believed they originally evolved aboveground, and later migrated underground with artificial light. There are many bioluminescent plants and animals beneath the surface as well.

Workers have 6 limbs, 4 arms and 2 legs. Two of the arms are shrivelled and mostly useless, while the other two are quite strong and dexterous. Workers have very steady hands which makes them ideal doctors, artisans, and engineers. They are also highly intelligent.

Soldiers are more brawns than brains most of the time, but their prowess in combat is undeniable. They are much larger than Workers, and possess enough strength to bend bars of solid steel. Their thick carapace can withstand a bullet impact (provided it's fired at long range). Soldiers have very good eyesight in addition to their acute hearing. They are good sharpshooters and melee combatants.

Thinkers are taller and thinner than any other class, giving them a gangly appearance. Their large heads sit precariously on top of their fragile bodies. Their strength is poor and their eyesight is typically close to blindness, but their minds are strong. The least intelligent Thinker is far smarter than the most intelligent Soldier or Worker. Thinkers have been the driving force of technological advancement for thousands of years, and their mindpower has always been enough to overcome their weaknesses.

Political Structure
Quote :
A Triumvirate is a system of government ruled primarily by 3. In the case of the Kazar people, these 3 individuals are elected every three years, with no term limit. Each of these individuals governs a broad aspect of Kazar society.

Conflict: In charge of matters of warfare, security, and public safety.
Construction: Handles infrastructural, economic, and logistical matters.
Contemplation: Scientific, political, and diplomatic leader.

Under the Triumvirate are the 3 Advisory Councils. Each Council has members appointed by one of the Triumvirate. The difficulty of running an entire planet means it is not uncommon for councils to have hundreds of appointees with thousands of subordinates each. The giant bureaucracy keeps things running peacefully, albeit inefficiently.

Culture
Quote :
Many Kazar live underground in a series of complex tunnel networks and "earthscrapers" (inverted towers), where temperatures are more tolerable. Their main food sources are cave-dwelling animals and fungi. Technological advances have enabled Kazar to live comfortably on the surface, albeit with few windows and minimal lighting. Their dwellings are heavily reinforced to guard against seismic activity and volcanic eruptions.

The Kazar possess many religions, though two stand out above the rest. Ternists believe the number 3 to be sacred, and that the classes are meant to have different roles. They do not worship any particular deity, but believe enlightenment is achieved through adhering to certain principles. The other religion is Xaxism. Xax (who a moon shares a name with) was considered a prophet to the ancient Kazar peoples, and spoke of a connection between all things. Before Kazar were even aware of space, Xax spoke of "orbs of rock and fire that stretch forever." Xaxism, though still fairly popular, is widely dismissed.

The defining trait of Kazar culture is that of the classes: Worker, Soldier, and Thinker. Each class is very different, though all are of the Kazar species. In older times, only two of these subspecies existed, Soldier and Thinker. Soldiers survived by their strength and adaptability, while Thinkers were gifted with a much higher intelligence. The Worker class, now the most prevalent, exists as a genetic bridge between them, while the frail Thinkers are slowly disappearing.

While it is technically possible for any class to do pretty much anything, it is extremely difficult. Soldiers are typically not allowed to hold political office. They must be in the military. Workers are given most of the menial tasks such as factory work and bookkeeping. The rarity, grace, and intellect of Thinkers make them revered above all others, and most often placed in positions of authority. All classes generally respect one another, and it is commonly held that each has its place in society.

No society is perfect, however. There are those who feel the class system is unfair and wish to see the Triumvirate dismantled. These individuals call for equal treatment of all classes, but others see their own class as being above the rest and strive for their "rightful" recognition. The opinions, perspectives, religious beliefs, and so forth vary in Kazar as they would in any sentient race. The transition to a global government has not sat well with everyone, and the Triumvirate, sensing instability, has put forth tremendous effort to give everyone a common goal: the exploration of the stars.

Economy
Quote :
Many industries are directly controlled by the government. A free market does exist, but criminal elements cause significant losses to legitimate businesses. Currently, the economy is weak, but stable. Many predict that a change is on the horizon.

Important People
Quote :
Jin: Male Thinker. Leader of the Order of Conflict. Served as a general during the Unification Wars. Extensive military and political experience. Advanced age suggests imminent replacement.
Vazith: Male Worker. Leader of the Order of Construction. Above-average intellect, moderate political and business experience.
Ren: Female Thinker. Leader of the Order of Contemplation. High intellect, knowledge of matters scientific and diplomatic. Fairly new to politics.

Jeril: Male Soldier. Commander of the Kazar flagship "Journey." Appointed to his position by a controversial 2-to-1 vote. His class and religious affiliation called into question by opponents.

I have no qualms with this other than the need for a bit more of a background.

Besides that, everything checks out.

I plan to update this with religions, physiology, and a brief history. I'd prefer others to get to know this race through IC interactions, however.

Well I've got no qualms with it, I can't find anything overpowered or generally impossible, and I did my best. I'd do the usual warning about no navy etc. but I got a feeling you've got other plans for these guys.
