An Oddity or Destiny?
Spoiler:
Quote :
Ada'laina Sylvari was born in New-Imperia, into the noble 'House Sylvari'. From birth you'd think she was treated as someone important in her household, having servants and maids that would reply to the snap of a finger. This was not the case, the house was a rather cold place, as her parents (Mart're Sylvari, father, and Ada'lainne Sylvari I, mother) were never very close to their newborn child, thinking of her as an oddity, or an outcast due to her white eyes. Her eyes marked her different in House Sylvari, given their eyes are yellow, given the blood line of the high elves, in opposition to the Mar'kyr family who bear white eyes. The difference of houses is distinguishable by the opposition of skin tone and eye color. Sylvari bear yellow eyes, with pale human resembling skin while Mar'kyr bear white eyes with a yellow tinge to their skin, though Ada'laina doesn't have the skin tone leans her closer to the Sylvari family, thus being kept in their house and raised as one of their own. Her family based their opinion on her early and life, and it stuck...

Spoiler:
Quote :
In her early childhood, Ada'laina grew up in a cold, shunned environment. Being shunned by both parents as well as her brother, as well as being marked as a "Conniving curse cast upon the family by House Mar'kyr." by the head of the house, Lord Tyzer. Still unsure if pity or kindness should be played, her uncle Marxus Sylvari took a liking to the young Ada'laina, being the sort of father figure she would have if her father hadn't resented her from birth. He taught her the basics of the elven language as well as spending time with her, trying to keep her from becoming and cold and unforgiving person like the environment she was accustomed to. However, being a small child around the age of two or three, she was still a giggly, giddy and innocent hearted just like any normal child in both the household or the general population. But would this kind of attitude stay when she learned more about the world? Who's to say, only time will tell.
The best resources are your own.
Spoiler:
Quote :
Around the age of five, Ada'laina was put into a private school reserved within House Sylvari by her uncle, as her parents refused to "Educate an abnormality of House Mar'kyr." They were furious with him, but he asked that as a favor to him for past favors owed by the young elf's father, so they let him go with it.. for the time being. For the first while of her early education, she took advantage of her uncle's wisdom to help her with her work, as well as her ability to learn. Around the age of seven, Marxus did his best to try and teach Ada'laina on his own time. He helped her along with things the education system didn't teach, like commerce, different nations and cities, as well as general things to be careful for such as strangers, beggars, and animals. She took an interest in learning about different sorts of creatures, such as Lycans, Ursas, and other creatures that lurk the night forests outside the sanctuary of their own city.
A strange habit occurs...
Spoiler:

(apologies on the short chapter)
About a year or two later, Ada'laina was walking through the market alone, she encountered a strange man preaching about Kelemvor to the people of the streets, throwing dirty water at them and cursing their names. This frightened Ada'laina at first, but then she stopped to listen as the man addressed her. "Come here.." he said, "Listen to the will of our savior!" The man was eventually dragged away, leaving his fliers as well as a journal behind. She took them home with her, examining the contents in the dark hours while the rest of House Sylvari was asleep. The contents were dark and mysterious, though they intrigued the young elf, so she began to read through them. The journal and documents spoke a lot about Kelemvor and what she was to the world... death. The thought of terror and unspoken acts peaked a certain interest of Ada'laina's, as her uncle never fully described the horrors that one soul could do to another, the thought frightened her at first, but she grew used to it over time.
The Turnpike
Spoiler:
Quote :
Around the age of ten, Ada'laina had become more educated about the world. Not just being simple arithmatics and numbers, but legitimate things such as cooking, learning to trade, as well as the art of mercantilism. She began to develop a silver tongue for those around her age level, though still having a lot of her childhood attributes such as innocence, empathy, pity as well as a wide list, her silver tongue wasn't so silver with adults. It was obvious to tell a lie from the truth when it came to speaking with Ada'laina if you were an adult, but as a child.. her cunning retaliation of words saved her a lot of effort when dealing with people of her own age, most being lightly educated given their poor peasant status. One day however, her easygoing life changed a lot. It was a beautiful night, not too hot, not too cold, and the moon was full. The oceanic bend was quiet with little waves turning in the water. The young elf and her uncle were trotting along a pathway when they stopped at a fork in the road, one way leading down to the ocean, the other leaning into the forest on the way to the next small village. They decided to ponder a moment, before a man came running from the woods, pleading for help. He wore both torn up and bloody rags, his face had slash marks on it, and he claimed that he was being pursued by a group of men. Neither her nor her uncle took direct action against the man, they listened to his pleads, mumbling amongst themselves for the time being, trying to decide what to do. Before long, an arrow shot through the man's chest, he dropped to his knees and began to mumble crazed ramblings, one of the men shouted, "Get back! He's a Lycan!" So they did, Ada'laina's uncle drew his sword, stepping closer. "I'm a hunter myself.." he said as he moved over to the downed man, but the single arrow wasn't enough to kill the beast. The man shouted out, as he began to grow fur, size and muscle mass. His face grew into an evil looking snout-like face similar to a wolf's, it lashed out at her uncle, scraping his throat and his chest, he fell to the ground in a limp manner. As the group began to stab at the Lycan, it ran off. The group pursued it through the woods. A few minutes passed and their screams were heard briefly, then silence... Her uncle turned his head towards her, speaking in a quiet tone. "I'm sorry, Laina.." those were his final words, cliche and bland.. but that was the end of Marxus Sylvari...
Skipping forward a good few years, Ada'laina, being aged 14 was a very different person. She'd turned cold-hearted with a bitter attitude, she wasn't very social and didn't care to offer empathy or pity for other people. She took liking to the dark as well as being alone in solitude. She began to take up swordsplay in her spare time, though it's frowned upon for women to do so while having a birthright of nobility, this didn't seem to bother her very much. She was fairly bad at first, but gradually became an amature in art of it, not having a whole lot to work with at the time.
Leaving Home.
Spoiler:
(Apologies again for another short one)
Quote :
At the age of sixteen, Ada'laina decided she'd have enough of the backstabbing family she came from. It was evident that her parents were bigots as they came up in the newspaper for having secret relations with the Mar'kyr family members, her brother and their daughter, as well as her father and one of the servants of House Mar'kyr. The thought disgusted Ada'laina, given how much hate her family's given her for bearing traits from those of House Mar'kyr. She was furious, and left in the night with her things. She'd cursed their name, vowing to never return.
The Journey East
Spoiler:
Quote :
During her travels east, she encountered a rather queer (odd) sort of humanoid, a giant. The man stood at least ten feet tall, and seemed rather hostile towards Ada'laina, he first tried to step on her, failing as she was rather small and quick. In a sudden notion, a large white tiger sprung from the tree-line, attacking at the giant's centre-mass. The tiger was about six feet long, and a few feet tall on all fours, it's pounce was rather deadly. The giant fell on it's back, pitching the tiger to the side as it swung it's club around menacingly as it stood up. Ada'laina watched in awe as the giant was attacked again, being swiped in the legs from the large beast. The tiger pounced on top of the giant after tearing it's calf open with it's large fangs, it soon after ripped out the giant's neck, leaving it twitching on the floor. Ada'laina drew her sword, watching the tiger as she quivered lightly in her shoes, slowly lowering the sword as the beast denied her unintentional challenge. It slowly bowed it's head, offering respect to the young elf, she nodded her head in return, lightly stepping closer. The tiger came closer to her, it's head being level with her neck area, as she was 5'2'' at the time, the beast was large in comparison. It lightly nuzzled her head, licking her face a bit, she rubbed it's neck area, mumbling a gentle "Thank you."
Later that night, she'd been sleeping under a tree further down the road, the tiger had left her side to eat at the dead giant as she moved further east. In the distance, a few torches were seen as screams were heard, followed by a deathly roar. This woke Ada'laina up, she moved to investigate apprehensively, to find the tiger in a series of ropes, being poked at and kicked by poachers. She began to scream at them, quickly hiding into a bush as they came to look for her. Being a quick thinker, Ada'laina moved around the group, slashing her sword down on the ropes attached to pikes which held the tiger down, eventually it got up and slashed, bit, mauled and mangled the group of poachers that came to it's attack, Ada'laina watched this, frowning at the bloody mess. She'd continued down the road back towards her camp area, the tiger followed her, but she couldn't figure out why. She looked at it in a confused manner as she got back and sat down, the tiger laid down next to her, and fell asleep. She did as well.
A New Found Friend
Spoiler:
Quote :
Over the course of a few days, Ada'laina and the large white tiger had been traveling together, seemingly comfortable around one another. The tiger listened to Ada'laina, seeming to understand her. She hadn't known how, only assuming that it'd been trained by another before she stumbled across it. The beast had paws bigger than her hands, it stood almost as tall as her on all fours, it's fur was white with black stripes, stained with a substantial amount of blood coated onto it from past fighting. It had one blue eye, and one brown. It's two fangs were about the length of her forearm, it's regular teeth about a 1/3rd of it's fangs. It walked with a sense of pride, keeping it's head up almost at all times, it hadn't shown much fear towards common enemies or monsters, though against impossible odds, it still knew it's place.
After a few days of travel, the two had found an inn in the east-marches of Sanctimonia. They entered cautiously, the barkeep didn't seem too thrilled about the large tiger entering before him, but didn't seem ballsy enough to speak up about it, seemingly intimidated by the large claws and fangs.. who wouldn't be? She haggled with him to allow them to spend the night in the cellar, as most rooms were full. They'd gone downstairs and took a much deserved rest.
Learning to Fight, Pt 1. The Blacksmith
Spoiler:
Quote :
Another year or so had passed, as Laina and her tiger she now called 'Ike' had traveled North towards Leyanara, the land had been somewhat strange and different from the western areas she was accustomed to. There were more mountains, rocky outcroppings with less trees to go around. She'd finally gotten to the small town of Leyanara where she met a man who seemed strange to her at first, he was a young Highlandic man by the name of Aedelric Adahn, she'd entered his small shop area and began to talk to him about honing her blade. He'd offered her a hand with it, asking a few shillings in return. Having left home so hastefully, the elf didn't have said fee, so she struck a bargain with Aedelric. Their deal was simple, he'd hone her blade for her, if she'd go with him to 'meet some old friends' he claimed to have had a beef with earlier. She agreed, not knowing what she was getting herself into..
Learning to Fight, Pt 2. The Deal
Spoiler:
Quote :
The trio consisting of Adahn, Ada'laina and Ike had been traveling for about 25 minutes before they reached a small mountain camp on the hill above the town in which Adahn's shop was located. They'd taken a moment to prepare, before knocking the gate. The gate opened after a few tries, as a man came out swinging a sword towards Adahn. He was pounced on by Ike, who bit out his throat before the trio moved their way into the camp, about five or six men drew their swords at the ready, they watched the two humanoids, as Ike came up a moment later, his jaws all bloody from his victim. Adahn turned to Ada'laina, pointing out that this was one of the groups of wanted bandits in the area, and that they had his latest shipment of iron ingots in which he needed back. Ada'laina drew her sword, waiting next to Aedelric. The group of men began to run over, most having nothing but blunt maces, tree branches and clubs. Aedelric and the tiger went for the first three, while two more flanked around, cutting Ada'laina off from the group, they both easily beat her unconscious using their size and know-how to fight over her. After waking up over an hour later from her blackout, she turned to find Aedelric next to her slapping her cheek lightly to wake her, she groaned, holding her head. "I did bad.. didn't I?" she inquired, squinting towards him. He'd nodded, and helped her stand. It would appear they were in one of the tents of the bandit camp, Aedelric's box was in there as well as some food being cooked, "Hungry?" he asked. She nodded, taking the small pot offered to her by him, it contained some beans and gravy. They began to discuss her skill-at-arms over dinner, Aedelric appreciated what little help she offered, and agreed to teach her how to fight if she'd help him around the shop a little bit. She agreed, and so their lessons began..
Learning to Fight, Pt. 3. A New Arsenal.

A week or so passed and Ada'laina's training with Aedelric had been going well. In the crate they'd recovered however, was an extra few kilos of silver, they'd assumed it was being smuggled by bandits in Aedelric's crate, but neither of them thought much of it. On the other hand, Ada'laina had made a request with the young smith, she asked for two special daggers bearing a home made engraving on each blade. Aedelric agreed, he also explained that silver blunts easily, and offered to put a carbon-metal finish on the outside to keep them sharp. He also offered her a small bundle of throwing knives, a custom design of his to use which she gladly took.
The Hunt Finds the Hunter/Huntress.
Spoiler:
Quote :
Skipping forward a few years of aimless wandering, Ada'laina eventually made her way to the borders between Sanctimonia and Vale. It was night time, the moon was full, while walking down the seemingly neverending road, Ada'laina finally came to a stop at an inn. From inside there was roars, screams, the breaking of glass as well as steel clinging. She knew there was trouble, and decided to slowly peek inside. A chair was thrown, bashing against the door, barely hitting her. She peeked around the corner, noting (I already told this story ICly, so some of you may recognize it) a large White Lycan fighting a group of monster hunters in the middle of the room. One of the hunters had already been killed, her throat ripped out. The other two were trying to fend the lycan off, both swinging at it and waving a torch, shouting, screaming.. Ada'laina pulled out her silver daggers, hesitant at first. She threw one towards the hulking fur-creature, hitting it in the back. It turned and yelled in pain, as it thrashed at her. She dove to the side, cutting at it's hamstring area, crippling it pretty badly, causing it to drop to one knee. The two monster hunters swarmed the creature, as a white aura hovered around it. It let out a deafening roar, as one of the hunters drove their sword through it's throat, ripping it out the side. The beast let out a ragged roar, having no more vocal cords. It then slumped over, dead. The two had turned to Ada'laina, what looked like the leader of the hunter group spoke, "An' who the 'ell d'ya think you are..?"
Apologies on the backstory taking more time than it should, been busy with school and my job, I'll get more done eventually.
Spoiler:
Two silver daggers, custom crafted with guard and grip with a carbon-metal lining on the outside to keep the blades from wearing down or blunting easily.
Spoiler:
Five throwing knives, custom made by Aedelric along with the daggers, comes with a shoulder pouch for them.

Special eyes from my character's bloodline, it's much like cat vision. Think of about the brightness of a glowstick in the night, maybe about half of that.

Sylvari? My ID on Guild Wars 2 is Zaku.1709 if you want to add me.
That aside, considering toning down the glowing eyes bit. You'd be surprised just how unique playing a normal character is around here.

Removed the glow all together, kept the white irises though.
On a side note, I don't play GW2 so you may have me confused with someone else, sorry to disappoint.

It's pretty traditional to assume Elves have some sort've affinity for seeing in the dark (I know darkvision is something they're gifted with in D&D) so I could see why one would make the connection.
And you're missing out. Guild Wars 2 is an extremely good game.

That was kind of my intention, but I'd rather give up that aspect and keep the character I put a lot of time into making, rather than start a dispute over a minor thing, worse comes to worse I'll make a torch to see.

Hey Zaku do you still go in a single man instance per area unless you have people join you in a town?

my lore critiques:
1, nitpicky issue. Name isn't Slavic whatsoever but not really a big deal.
2, lived in Pycheko yet doesn't know the language, Aru.
3, elves don't mean shit in Pycheko and have mostly been sent into forced labor. Highly unlikely of them acquiring a noble or wealthy position.
4,
Quote :

very unlikely seeing how there is literally a soldier on every street corner who would drag this guy away and send him to a "happy fun time workplace" in the wastes.
5, in general it seems like you haven't even spent the time to read up on Pycheko other than go into the geographical page and say "hmmm I suppose I'll have my character live here." It lacks really any hint of Pychekan influence or culture besides "Vytek".
If you want your character to have a good backstory, research where you're placing them there instead of just assuming that it's a more northern Sanctimonia where people speak funny accents. Plus it's kind of offensive when someone uses my lore and then doesn't even get it right, or consult me to confirm that it's right.

I assumed an elf family to have kept their names elvish, like you don't see white people in say, Japan having their names the same as the traditional names there. Or like African Americans often give their children African based names.

I edited my thing late last night, changing a few things. I'd also assume if you went to school in Pycheko, you'd pick up on how to speak the language. Apologies for giving the benefit of the doubt that people wouldn't assume that.

It's highly unlikely, but then again look at how ridiculous some of the other characters on this server are, if this is a problem then I don't even know what to say about some of the other approval requests.

Already stated he was dragged off, I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

I havn't mentioned a whole lot on it considering most of my backstory isn't me just rolling around town doing stuff, not much was mentioned as I didn't see the need to stick it in there when the story is based around my character, not the buildings and people around her.

Of course, but we have to take into account the harsh environment and polar opposite ideals that certain police state societies have to normal Sanctimonian ideals. For example, the pre-timeskip Occitanian Empire and the Pychekans do share the same police state apparatus, and therefore we can assume that the nobility of the land would not simply be left alone, and if I am right in assuming Pychekans value work and nationality as much as the Occitanians of old did, then most likely the Elven family would be heavily monitored by the forces of the state, and of course the young Ada'laina would most likely be exposed to certain aspects of the society that can not be sheltered. Again, I am not majorly versed in Pychekan lore, but what I can expect is the same of old Occitan. Street beatings, forced rehousing and a lot of bullying by the state. As such, we can assume that it is very important to the backstory that we see that she has come from a certain environment into another, as it allows us to easily identify her in the roleplay, as well as helping to flesh out the backstory of the character herself. Also a good thing to note; if you list your character as 'Pychekan' as it were, there are certain other characters in this roleplay that may interact with her differently, and may require some knowledge on the lore of the country, as it is hard to roleplay or argue against something you haven't a clue about. This isn't a personal attack, but more of a reminder to quickly brush up on some Pychekan lore, as I believe it will help you to understand why putting your Elven house of nobility into such a harsh society might seem odd to some. It also helps to know the world you're roleplaying in!
Anyway, those are my two cents. I'm sure Blitz doesn't mind me doing this, as he is the original creator of Pycheko and I believe that seeing characters that may not have fit in with his idea of the country may grind against his gears slightly, so to speak. However, if I have given a wrong impression of Pychekan society, please feel free to ignore me, but I feel confident that I have portrayed it as I have witnessed from certain characters and Pychekan ambassadors on the server.
Hope you get your character passed, and into the world of Aeria, so we can see you on server!

I appreciate the advise, I'm probably going to change my birthplace to make it a little more convenient for everyone, apologies for being a little short on the lore, there's a few things I missed but I'll be sure to change a few things around so that my story fits together nicely.

No, there are no more instances. Once Jacque gets his copy of GW2 we'll most likely make a thread for it and we can circlejerk there together and not on this character page.

The biography is truly impressive, and shows a lot of dedication. I like what I see already, and I cannot wait to see a little more. I'll save my final judgement for when the biography is in a more finished state. = )

And you're missing out. Guild Wars 2 is an extremely good game.
Hey Zaku do you still go in a single man instance per area unless you have people join you in a town?
No, there are no more instances. Once Jacque gets his copy of GW2 we'll most likely make a thread for it and we can circlejerk there together and not on this character page.
I'll be waiting.

Oh, hey.
I quite like the backstory, good job on that, though the Tiger incident seems a bit strange, given, in Olden, Elves don't have a natural affinity for nature by the merit of being Elves. Only the Tymafar of Nuihadhas (Estivon in the Common Tongue), otherwise known as the Wild Elves, have a natural affinity for nature.
But disregard that. Aeria being a place of magic, certain anomalies and unknowns can take place.
My input would be to change the race of her aristocratic house to Half Elven, or Elefar, as being of "High" Elf blood assumes some very specific things that are not reflected in her biography, but being Half Elven fits, as there are many Half Elven families, old families, descended from Elven immigrants, be it from Ahdsur (homeland of the High Elves) or of Nuihadhas. Their ancestry is up to you, though being of Wild Elf descent might explain the friendliness of her tiger. Half Elves retain most of their Elven ancestor's magical potency, but live, on average, only to 150.
Other than that, I quite like when characters share a backstory, or at least know each other before arriving in Surna.
Accepted. Just change her race to Half Elf and we're golden.

Great comment. I appreciate the positive feedback and the support :)
However, to clear things up. The tiger didn't attack her because she was young, and had no real intention to fight him, as most animals have the instinct to sense fear, aggression, etcetera. So I added that into the play that maybe some people didn't catch. It didn't attack her because he knew she was both scared and had no aggressive intentions towards him.
