| Overview - Quote :
- The Watch is a government organization charged with enforcing the laws of Sanctimonia and keeping the peace in its rural towns and cities. With most of its members drawn from the civilian populace of their respective towns, The Watch is tasked with apprehending violators of the Sanctimonian Common Law set down by the Crown. They are also charged with defending the innocent, rooting out criminals and keeping order within the town and the neighbouring lands. Although the existence of The Watch is required by the Crown in every city and town with more than five thousand people, The Watch is largely treated as a regional organization, and as such is subordinate to the local government. The Watch receives most of its funding from taxes levied on the local populace under its jurisdiction, with their treasury sometimes supplemented by donations from charitable individuals or organizations such as local crafts guilds. Unlike previous law enforcement organizations, such as the Talibarian Guard, The Watch does not double as a military in times of war. However, they can be called upon to defend the town from invading forces if it is attacked. The Watch is not only given authorization to use deadly force as a first response against supernatural creatures and other dangerous entities; it is also authorized to use any means necessary to bring criminals to justice. Otherwise, most situations must be handled with less than lethal force. The Watch does not exist in the smaller villages of Sanctimonia and do not have a presence everywhere. They do however, protect merchant caravans close to their respective lands.
Ranks, Organization, and Equipment - Quote :
- Not unlike previous organizations, The Watch allows personal customization of gear within reason, but the main uniform of the Watch should be dominant and visible on the outfit. Otherwise, men and women within the lower ranks are free to unburden themselves from certain heavy equipment such as pauldrons or mail face veils (at their own risk). All equipment issued to members of the Watch is still the property of the Watch, and the use of Watch equipment while off-duty is a serious offense. Prospective members apply via form and evaluation at their local guardhouse. All new recruits must receive instruction and training in the use of their weapons before entering active service.
