What was meant to be a peaceful, healing evening dedicated to those of us who have lost in recent days has been mired in tragedy. The fundraiser Gala, hosted by the Heartlands Crafts Guild, began well, with attendees arriving in splendid clothing and partaking in enjoyable discourse and fine food. Governor Warthrop arrived soon after, though Commander Halberry never arrived.
The otherwise splendid festivities were broken slightly by a few troublemakers. It is not believed that these rowdy louts were connected to the later tragedy, and they spent the night in jail.
Shortly after Vorn Tyrr's arrival, a man who was attending the party, one "Deven Cakebread" was shot and stabbed by an unknown assailant(s). Cakebread was brought to the House of Illmatyr for healing, but he passed away soon after. It is said that his passing was painless.
Tyrr offered his condolences. "It pains me so that I could not have done more." Indeed, the normally stoic Tyrr involved himself most heavily in the tragedy. Eyewitnesses report Tyrr helping carry the injured man away, and that Tyrr was even there at his passing.
A memorial is expected to be held soon.
In more pleasant news, it is reported that the Guild managed to raise 3,400 shillings during the gala, with private donations putting the total raised funds at an impressive 5,600. Tyrr has said that the money is already being distributed among the needy.
