Located in the very furthest eastern reaches of Occitan, this simple farmland far from what most would associate with the great teutonic nation.
Comprised mainly of loosely scattered towns and rural villages amongst a backdrop of dramatic mountains and hills, the area is considered by its inhabitants to be the most beautiful in all of Occitan. However, to the rest of the nation, its complete lack of industry and low development in complex social issues has earned it a derogative reputation of being backwards and uneducated.
Education is mainly down to the individual to study, and most choose not to, hence providing a certain degree of truth to the land. However, there have been many great scholars to come out of the land, and it more than makes up for its inherent lack of development with an iron sense of community and faith in their respective deities.
Racially, the Weissböden are about half Occitanian in heritage. They resemble more Northern cultures, which is represented in the much more diverse and unconventional names. This also has become a point of insult for many in central Occitan. (e.g, Stoltenberg or Eytinge - or Marcus and Jens)
The name itself loosely translates as "The White Home", a reference to its famous abundance of natural resources - most notably a chalk-like material.
Famously, it is the only region of Occitan that has previously permitted magical exploits - however, a short lived period due to reported murders with such unnatural forces. It has since joined the Occitanian tradition of banning the practice of magic completely.
In terms of militia, it is monitored very sparsely by some branches of the Legion, but has its own local force which includes most of the population. They possess no armour or advanced weaponry, preferring to use simple spears or farming tools.
A person from Weissböde is very likely to be discriminated against, so those who leave tend to hide their heritage.
