___________________________________________________________ Imported from the Southern island nations, the immensely popular Sky Dial gadget is made to assist adventurers and navigators in their travels. Although he was largely unheard of in the Heartlands, the gadget was developed by a very famous adventurer and sailor, Derrek Fyyar, who originated from the Southern island nations.
His signature is there on the top of each model.
The device is capable of reading current and incoming weather, the current time, and which way is North. The device is powered by both the sun's rays and moonlight, its dials sensitive to both. Though expensive, the device received great acclaim from sailors and adventurers alike. Although never common, each device painstakingly made by hand from expensive materials and heavy research, the device was invaluable. It became the stuff of envy, and the market was soonafter flooded with cheap imitations of the device. While Derrek Fyyar is long dead, his invention remains in use today, often handed down as family heirlooms. Original models are much sought after, especially the rarer form that includes the ability to detect concentrations of magic. It is said that one of these devices can turn a mediocre sailor into one of legend; indeed, Sanctimonian Sailor Raithen Cholik was one of the few to make the trip to Ara'ki, having used the device extensively, to serve clear of the devastating arcane tempests.
It is rumored that a number of wealthy investors are attempting to revive and improve upon the device; indeed, a number of famous engineers have already been approached, though they are unable to disclose Any information at this time.
